My work develops through material, time and environment. Using natural dyes, handmade paper and locally sourced elements including Nebraska soil, water and plant matter, I create works that emerge through process rather than predetermined outcomes.
My exploration of natural dyeing and mud-based processes was influenced by the work of Aboubakar Fofana after learning mud dyeing through one of his workshops. Building on that foundation, I developed my own approach using Nebraska soil, water and other locally available materials. The work is grounded in place and shaped through direct engagement with the environment around me.
I am interested in how materials carry change — how they absorb, retain and reflect what has occurred. Soil leaves traces. Water alters surfaces. Plant matter imparts color. Oxidation changes cloth. Repeated handling transforms paper and fiber. Each material participates in the work's transformation.
Alongside my individual practice, I create collaborative works influenced by the Exquisite Corpse tradition. Through shared participation, multiple contributors shape a piece over time, introducing variation, unexpected relationships and collective authorship. These projects explore how artworks can emerge through shared experience while extending beyond a single point of control.
