Cochineal

I hosted one of my mad scientists natural dyeing workshops last month featuring cochineal.

Cochineal produces a brilliant beautiful red color, but when mixed with other ingredients or over dyed it’s possible to produce many, many more colors.

In this particular workshop we were able to produce 12-14 different colors.

Isn’t this pink magnificent!

During the workshop, I stressed the importance of taking notes during these types of dyeing classes. The main purpose of that is so that you have a better opportunity to re-create the colors you come up with.

We dyeing on both plant and animal fiber/textiles: cotton and silk.
